Talk to me about Edde Vedder
Watching this film on Netflix called ‘Into the Wild’, with Eddie Vedder singing Hard Sun.

Loved his voice, although was never that into Pearl Jam as a kid.

Has an amazing backstory with his parents.

I’m intrigued. Help me fill in a part of my youth that I missed out on...

Has anyone seen him live?
What are his best songs?
How highly do we rate him?

Great singer. Pearl Jam aren't my favourite band, but Ten is probably my most favourite album. There isn't a bad song on it.

Quality singer. Impossible to pick a best song.
Rambles on a bit between songs when they play live, but they are fucking excellent.

The first three PJ albums are the best ones.

PJ are my favourite band - seen them loads of times, and seen EV’s solo stuff as well.

Excellent voice

Re: Talk to me about EDDE VEDDER
He's a good singer, that's about all I know. Here's a few live clips from 20 years back when he guested with Neil and Tim Finn in Auckland NZ (along with Johnny Marr and 50% of Radiohead). His appearance was (I believe) an expression of gratitude for Neil dragging him out of a west coast rip he got caught in while surfing.

These are all old Split Enz songs. The guitarist in the young band - Betchadupa - is Liam Finn. Now plays with Neil in Crowded House, who's concert I enjoyed a couple of nights ago......along with around 5,000 others.

Did a good cover of The Who's Love Reign O'er Me.

What's the backstory with his parents then?

It was only quite recently I realised what the name pearl jam is a reference to. How rude.

Leonard

Vedder grew up believing his step-dad was his real father.

Only when a teenager was he told the truth, that his real biological father was a bloke he had only briefly met once.

‘Better man’ and ‘Alive’ are songs about the issue.

I saw OASIS when they were touring pubs and thought they weren't all that.

I still think that.

Trunds... I had a party invite when OASIS played at the Cliffs... they was good mates with our local swag man (Robbie the Wig)... they used to do a stint selling t shirts at concerts/football etc... we all knew Robbie so go at invite to the after show party around his gaff... only thing is I'd had previously booked on that day to go with the missus to stay at her sisters for her 30th Birthday party in Devon... app' only Bonehead and the drummer (Tony Carroll?) turned up...

Seen them play live in Dublin good few years back. They we brilliant. Really good band and was a great show.

Neil Young came out for the encore and they did Rocking in the Free World together.

And I was very pissed.

They DID play at the Esplanade in 1992, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

Were you planning on seeing them last summer?
Me and my friends had tickets for Germany, Netherlands and Italy before it all got cancelled.

Would be very surprised if it happens this summer either, now.

Gutting.

And here's the tour poster. Southend is there amongst some other TINY venues. Would be extraordinary to see them somewhere like the Borderline or Newcastle Riverside.

Agree. I quite liked them for a couple of albums at the beginning but saw them live and was unimpressed (this was partly due to their ropey playing and partly due to the sort of crowd they attracted) and now when you listen to them, they are a mostly poor band. Two good albums maybe?
